News from Nowhere

news from Nowhere is the twelfth product of the Kelmscott Press and the fifth Kelmscott book written by William Morris himself (in all, Morris would go on to publish seventeen of his own works, not including several translations). It had previously been published in Commonweal and by Boston and London publishers in 1890 and 1891 but Morris nevertheless hoped to make it one of the first products of his new press. The book's frontispiece features a wood engraving of Kelmscott Manor drawn by Charles M. Gere, then a young illustrator who would go on to achieve greater fame while working for the Ashendene Press. Kelmscott printed 300 copies of the book in March of 1893.

The Lear Center copy is bound in the original limp vellum with green cloth ties at the foreedge. The book was donated to the Library by Charles E. Feinberg.
